Thomas Hirschhorn has been chosen to represent Switzerland at the Venice Biennale in 2011. Hirschhorn, a Paris-based artist who was born in Bern, Switzerland is known for his constructions of foil, plastic, cardboard and packing tape that appear both in art institutions and in public places. His work gather references to philosophy and popular culture, economics and poetry, artists and fashion designers, in a bombardment of information and imagery that often concern issues of left-wing politics and globalization.
