Upcoming Don Porcella Show

in.flec.tion artist Don Porcella has an upcoming show at Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art  in Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden located in Staten Island, New York. "Cave Dwellers" will run from November 13, 2010 - March 14, 2011, with an opening reception planned for November 13 from 3:00 to 5:00.

Written up as an "environmental installation," Porcella's sculpture creations will be placed in the divided gallery as an exploration into the "concept of ancient artists, art history, early inhabitants of Staten Island, and extraterrestrial life." "Cave Dwellers" presents new ideas on evolution and poses possible understandings about early humans and their behavior.

Potluck Event with Daniel Pitin

Last night HVCCA co-sponsored a potluck event with the Peekskill Arts Council to welcome our Fall 2010 Artist in Residence, Daniel Pitin, to the Peekskill artist community. Close to thirty HVCCA and PAC members came out to meet Daniel and to enjoy deliciously prepared foods. Guests especially enjoyed tasting the imported Czech beer and singing happy birthday to Associate Director, Irma Jansen, whose birthday is next week.

Goran Skofic at Sint-Lukasgalerie

After the Fall exhibited artist and 2011 Artist-in-Residence Goran Skofic is currently in Brussels at Sint-Lukasgalerie where his work is subject of a solo show. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration with Artists in Residence (AIR) Antwerpen.

The show features work from Skofic's Corpus series, which is also on display in HVCCA's video room.  In the eight videos that make up the series, a multiplied figure of the artist himself is shown rythmically performing a single action (working out in the gym, running, applauding). By manipulating the images, the artist interogates the theoretical discourse of simulacrum.
